Woodlawn

The building of the original Fiske Elementary building has now been closed, but its name lives on in the old Sexton Elementary School building, which is located only a 3-minute drive apart, but on the opposite site of a dividing line. This is of symbolic importance to families because of gang presence, which has caused practical implications for safe passage to and from school.

The original building, although as yet unsold, has caught the eye of the Chicago Department of Planning & Development due to its proximity to the upcoming Obama Presidential Center, and would be good for offsite programming that prioritizes education in Woodlawn.
