Fall Activation Day + Open House Chicago (October)
During this weekend, Overton School participates in Open House Chicago – a free, two-day public festival that offers behind-the-scenes access to 250+ architecturally, historically and culturally significant sites across the city. An added feature of this activation day is theTeen Neighborhood Ambassadors as docents during this day. Their program includes researching and learning the story of places and neighborhoods during the Summer as trained docents for the Chicago Architecture Center. These teens did an amazing job sharing the past, present and future about the school. They also had the opportunity to meet former students and current residents such as Ms. Joann Coleman. Joann attended Overton school in the 5/6th grade (1967-68) and told us the story of working on a time capsule project. She currently is a resident at Rosenwald Court Apartments (former Michigan Boulevard Garden Apartments), a couple of blocks from Overton on 47th Street.
