On Sunday, July 13th, we saw the launch of brand new programming at Overton: Jenny Guzman's Creative Nature series.

Unlike our already-existing garden workshops, which focus on practical advice for urban growers, Creative Nature asks attendees to contemplate their relationship with the natural world, using it as a source of artistic inspiration.

To kickstart the series, attendees created "body maps" — a sort of abstract self portrait — from plants and other materials collected throughout Overton. In choosing specific plants, colors, and arrangements, attendees created bouquets that reflected how they felt in that moment, connecting themselves to the land.

Jenny Guzman leads and facilitates workshops through Somos Los Urbs in Horto / We Are The City In A Garden, an organization exploring the connections between Chicago's built environment, its nature, and the communities therein.
